( ... oh. bummer. well, she can't be too mad about that, can she? a bit silly to assume he'd be free at a moment's notice just because she all of a sudden decided she'd like to get out of bed before noon. )

not as cool as yours, unfortunately
i'm not very good with a stick shift

oh
that's okay

( it doesn't feel okay. kimberly's not very good at dealing with rejection, but this feels like an especially painful twist in her stomach. she's used to boys losing interest once they get what they want, but... well, baby had been different, hadn't he?

but there's no use crying over it. or, at the very least, admitting to anything. )

we can hang out another time

pay attention to your date, mister

( rejection or not, it gives her an excuse to avoid showing her hand. if he's on a date that he expects to last through morning, this is probably a girl he likes. he should give that girl his full attention. )

i'll talk to you tomorrow
you can catch me up then

( teenage girl translation: please don't tell me. )

( she doesn't really expect him to show up the next day. she's not sure why that thought lodges itself in her brain quite so firmly, but it does. kimberly spends the rest of the evening curled up under the blankets with clary, watching movies and lazily picking at take-out from the chinese restaurant they've grown especially fond of. cashew chicken really is a universal cure, isn't it?

well, kind of. the morning comes and goes, too, without so much as a text message, and kimberly assumes that'll be the end of that. not much else she can do, is there? )

( the sound of a knock at the door pulls kimberly out of her cocoon of blankets and pillows, away from the television playing something that is decidedly not a collection of tragic romance dramas on loop (except it totally is) and towards the front door. when said door opens, it's obvious that she's not nearly as put together as she might be any other time. her hair's pulled back by a thin elastic strap, and while there may have been a robe at one point over her outfit, it's long since gone by the time she opens the door —

— to find the very person she hadn't been expecting on the other side of it. well. now she kind of wishes she had bothered to put on real clothes. )

Hey. ( the brightest and most cheerful of greetings, obviously. )

Oh, no, I'm fine. Just... tired, I guess?

( the biggest lie to ever be told, but she tries hard to make it believable, a soft smile curving across her features. it doesn't quite reach her eyes, but maybe he can blame that on sleepiness. after all, she is still in her pajamas. )

I didn't know for sure if you were coming, that's all.

( it's meant to be nonchalant, accentuated by a gentle shrug of her shoulders and a lazy gesture for him to follow her inside. rather than bother with the small table in the kitchen, kimberly just grabs two forks from a drawer before moving into the living room, dropping her body into a corner of the couch, legs curled up beside her. normally, she'd let herself sprawl, drape one end of her body across his lap, but for some reason, she hesitates. )

I was just watching movies on TV, but I can change it if you want to watch something else.
