( the sound of a knock at the door pulls kimberly out of her cocoon of blankets and pillows, away from the television playing something that is decidedly not a collection of tragic romance dramas on loop (except it totally is) and towards the front door. when said door opens, it's obvious that she's not nearly as put together as she might be any other time. her hair's pulled back by a thin elastic strap, and while there may have been a robe at one point over her outfit, it's long since gone by the time she opens the door —
— to find the very person she hadn't been expecting on the other side of it. well. now she kind of wishes she had bothered to put on real clothes. )
Hey. ( the brightest and most cheerful of greetings, obviously. )
[ Luckily for Kimberly, it's not exactly like he dressed up, either. But when he sees her, his face, and his smile, immediately drop a little. ]
Hey. Are you okay? I brought pancakes.
[ He holds up the box, wondering if she's caught something between their conversation yesterday, and now. She looks like she was definitely not expecting him, which strikes him as strange. ]
Did you forget about me?
[ He puts his smile back on, a little, soft half-smirk. ]
( the biggest lie to ever be told, but she tries hard to make it believable, a soft smile curving across her features. it doesn't quite reach her eyes, but maybe he can blame that on sleepiness. after all, she is still in her pajamas. )
I didn't know for sure if you were coming, that's all.
( it's meant to be nonchalant, accentuated by a gentle shrug of her shoulders and a lazy gesture for him to follow her inside. rather than bother with the small table in the kitchen, kimberly just grabs two forks from a drawer before moving into the living room, dropping her body into a corner of the couch, legs curled up beside her. normally, she'd let herself sprawl, drape one end of her body across his lap, but for some reason, she hesitates. )
I was just watching movies on TV, but I can change it if you want to watch something else.
[ She seems to be in a weird mood, and Baby doesn't really know how to react. But still, he follows her through the house, and sits on the couch - close but not too close, looking at her more than he's looking at the TV. ]
Why weren't you sure I was coming?
[ Too many times, he's been the one to go when he was called. He's never been late, he's never not shown up when asked. But that's one of these things he can't exactly tell her. Not all of it, anyway. ]
Hey. [ Gently, he reaches out, turning her face towards his, his voice soft when he speaks. ] If I say I'll show up, I'll show up. Is it because of - yesterday?
